Netflix recently announced that they would be eliminating user profiles

User profiles enabled multiple members of a household to maintain separate queues and recommendations. It’s a super useful feature and I can’t understand why they would get rid of it.
Thought I should add this bit of news to the discussion. Netflix and Razorfish put together a prototype using Microsoft’s Silverlight cross-platform technology. You can watch a demonstration of it (on both Windows and Mac) over on the MIX blog.
There’s no need to add amazon id numbers, UPC codes are good enough if even necessary.
The new eMusic remote is built around a pared down Firefox build and it works great. A standalone player could also reduce any cross-platform development issues.
